Welcome
For every good job opening you find, chances are there will be
hundreds-even thousands-of people competing against you for
it. There is simply no way you can kill them all.
Dave Barry, Dave Barry's Money Secrets

Making a well thought out career choise is the most important thing you can do to insure having a successful life at work. There are several factors you should look at when making a career choice, including your personality, values, interests and skills. The goal of this process, called self-assessment, is to find a career that is a good match for you.

Dear friends, Do you want to achieve something more in your career? Do you want to achieve something in your life? You are welcome! You are at the right place!

First of all let me introduce myself. My name is Stephen A. Miles, an author and consultant to CEOs and corporate boards of directors. I am a Vice Chairman of Heidrick & Struggles, a member of the global CEO and board practice and a member of the firm's management committee. After working as a social worker counseling maximum-security inmates at the Kingston Penitentiary in Ontario, I turned my focus to management and leadership, receiving his Masters in Business Administration (1997) from Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario. Upon receiving my MBA, I worked for about a year as a consultant at Anderson Consulting before he arrived at Heidrick & Struggles in 1999. Since arriving at Heidrick & Struggles as a research analyst, I moved on to become a vice chairman, and currently runs Leadership Advisory Services within the Leadership Consulting Practice, overseeing the firm's worldwide executive assessment/succession planning activities.

And now after many years of my experience, I decided to gather all my knowledge in this area together. As a result I and my co-author Nate Bennett wrote the book Your career game How Game Theory Can Help You Achieve Your Professional Goals. This is a must-read strategic guide for anyone who seeks to advance their career and navigate today's job market.

"So interesting and intriguing..."
"I have been looking at the applications of games to work and school lately, have really considered that for careers. Interesting idea, well executed. Nathan Bennett and Stephen A. Miles suggest that fewer people recognize how the pursuit of an open job can be framed as one "move" in a multifaceted game called "a career." The authors contend that individuals who quickly recognize the career game for what it is fascinating, complex, real-life, played in real time can develop into better players and, consequently, will have a better chance of successfully competing for the sort of positions that will help them to realize their goals. Thank for this book!"

"So interesting and intriguing..."
"As someone who has searched for many jobs (within and outside of my original industry), and made various moves - this book finally addresses what it takes to get ahead and how to address the challenges of the "competitive landscape"! We typically only think about getting the job and then naturally getting promoted through good work, and don't think about what other factors we need to be considering (such as the mentoring relationships we need to be developing and how to get noticed in your role to get ahead. Even better, the book contains extensive interviews from a diverse array of successful executives whose own careers are not only educational, but inspiring. As we see a new generation enter the workforce in one of the most challenging economies the world has seen #as well as see individuals have to restart their careers in a new industry), this book is also a tool for getting to that next step. This book changes how you think about your career - it's no longer a simple game of checkers, it's a game of chess and you have to be strategic to get ahead!." Tom Griffin
